2. Project Planning & Process

A well-planned project leads to a successful website. Here, we explain our structured approach, from discovery to development, including timelines, revisions, and how we handle unexpected delays.

Every new project begins with a Discovery package. This is a series of calls where we interview key stakeholders in your organization interspersed with research by our team of web experts. This allows us to analyze your current website, get to know your industry and the competitive landscape and uncover the biggest digital pain points and opportunities. All of this information is then fed into the creation of a Website Project Blueprint- which is a concrete plan to build the right website for your organization.

The short answer is it depends on the size and complexity of the project. To give a rough idea from start to finish our smaller projects take between 2-3 months, and larger projects take 4-6 months. This includes our discovery, design, development, testing, content population and go-live phases allowing padding for feedback, meetings and other things that can delay a project.

We generally prefer to work on new websites, as taking on the work of others can put us in a difficult position depending on the build quality of the existing site. That being said if you have an existing ExpressionEngine or Craft CMS website our team are very well-versed in these technologies and is likely to be in a position to upgrade or maintain them.

A set number of included rounds of revisions and a clear scope of work are included in your contract, additional revisions or out-of-scope change requests are fine but will be charged hourly in addition to the agreed project cost.

Projects can take longer for numerous reasons, sometimes it is due to delays in communication with the client, additional design revisions or changes in scope. We always try to pad our timelines to accommodate for the unexpected, but some delays are beyond our control. Your account manager will keep you informed if the project is on track, and we always recommend clients opt for a ‘soft launch’ where the site goes live a few days or a week before any planned PR and advertising campaigns dependent on the site launch.

Website development is an investment. Learn about our pricing models, what influences costs, and what’s included in our packages.
